As exciting as this possibility sounds, given that Batman: The Animated Series remains a beloved classic (and for good reason), the fact is this idea appears to be in the beginning stages of development and there aren't any details known apart from the fact that the idea exists.

The leak, which has been echoed by CBR, has come from Fatman Beyond co-hosts Marc Bernardin and Kevin Smith. Here's what Bernardin had to say about it: "The rumor is that HBO Max is looking to make a sequel to Batman: The Animated Series".

I'm not involved, but I too have heard this and I've heard this from very reliable people.

Batman: The Animated Series debuted on 5 September 1992 and aired from 1992 to 1995 for 85 episodes over two seasons.

The show features the voice talents of Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker (among many others), who have returned to reprise their roles in various movie spinoffs and video game adaptations. It also introduced Harley Quinn, one of DC Comics' most popular characters. The show pretty much kickstarted the entire DC Animated Universe, paving the way for shows like Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League.

Of course, nothing has yet been confirmed, but considering that Warner Bros and HBO Max are still very much in the DC movie business, a sequel to such a critically acclaimed series as Batman: The Animated Series is really a no-brainer, especially when the streaming service is looking for projects that will entice subscribers. The series focused on the exploits of Batman and his crusade against injustice in modern-day Gotham City, a dark, gothic, crime-ridden area. "I don't think that's a rumor, I wouldn't say 'Set your watch to it, ' but it's an idea whose time is not only coming, I think it came, and it's smoking a cigarette". I think that will happen. It's an animation that you can pick up and literally go connecting to those incredible classic stories.

Kevin Smith went on to talk about the idea of continuing the story to the classic Batman: The Animated Series believing it is bound to happen anytime now and how wonderful it would be since it is not like that the actors are getting old, so they have to explain. I think it's true, I don't think it's a rumor. The show would also spawn a short-lived continuation series in the form of The New Batman Adventures. She could perfectly serve as inspiration for a series of Batman, the animated series.
