The Vatican began offering free vaccinations against COVID-19 to Rome's homeless on Wednesday.

It was in the Paul VI hall, where Vatican employees, starting with the Swiss Guard, were also vaccinated.

However, Pope Francis has invited those who normally participate in the retreat - cardinals living in Rome and the heads of Vatican offices - to arrange for their own personal retreat in prayer, said a written communique from the Vatican press office January 20.

Relax. Put your left arm like this.

About 25 homeless people who are looked after in facilities run by the office received their first dose, and more groups would be vaccinated in the coming days, a statement said.

Some were disabled, including one man in a wheelchair, who expressed satisfaction with the "extra security" provided by the vaccine, Vatican News reported.
