Ontario reports 52 new COVID-19 deaths, cases drop to under 2,400

As of Friday afternoon, Canada reported a total of 735,950 COVID-19 cases and 18,799 deaths, according to CTV.

"Fighting the pandemic is our top priority".

"The Government of Canada purchased these Mobile Health Units as part of our overall preparedness plan to help protect the health and safety of Canadians", said Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada.

The mobile health units will provide up to 200 additional hospital beds and free up space for people who need ICU care.

A total of 1,501 people are in hospital with COVID-19, 395 in intensive care units and 299 are on ventilators. Each MHU has the capacity to include 100 hospital beds.

The Ministry of Labour says inspection efforts focused on the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas last weekend, but will concentrate on Ottawa, Windsor, Niagara and Durham Regions over the next two days.

"The only way to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and end the provincewide shutdown is for everyone - owners, customers and staff alike - to follow the proper guidelines".

Hospitals across the province have been dealing with capacity challenges for weeks, especially in areas with high transmission of COVID-19.
