"Today marks another milestone for COVAX: in addition to securing access to doses, we are now expecting the first deliveries of life-saving COVID-19 vaccines in Q1".

On December, 2020, the United Kingdom became the first country in the world to approve and rollout the Pfizer vaccine, but in order to ensure more people get the first jab sooner, the UK's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency opted to delay the second dose for up to 12 weeks instead of the 21-day gap recommended by the manufacturers. According to the latest World Health Organization update, a decision on this vaccine candidate is anticipated by the middle of February.

Here in the UAE, as of January 23, the total number of doses administered stands at 2,426,793 with a vaccine distribution rate of 24.54 doses per 100 people.

The Dubai Health Authority took to Twitter on Saturday night to confirm that it is working on rescheduling the first dose of the Covid-19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

This is not just significant for COVAX, it is a major step forward for equitable access to vaccines, and an essential part of the global effort to beat this pandemic.
