  • President Donald Trump gather for a rally in Washington

The company reprinted pages of tweets and other comments from web users enraged about Dominion's role in stealing Trump's rightful second term - allegedly leading some to levy threats against Dominion and its employees, and leading legislators in multiple states to declare their intent to review existing Dominion contracts.

"Having been deceived by Giuliani and his allies into thinking that they were not criminals - but patriots "Defend [ing] the Republic" from Dominion and its co-conspirators - they then bragged about their involvement in the crime on social media", the complaint says.

The company claims in its lawsuit that it has had to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra security for employees as a result of Giuliani's defamatory statements, as well as over $1 million responding to claims made by the various defendants after the election.

Those allegations, repeated in lawsuits filed by lawyer Sidney Powell, have been rejected by courts in multiple states.

"After decrying how an American election had been fixed by a Venezuelan-owned company, Giuliani marketed cigars from an "American-owned" company, offering '$20 off orders over $100" if his viewers used the code "Rudy20' when ordering", the lawsuit said.

In the months since the 2020 election was finalized, Donald Trump and his allies have floated conspiracy theories about the election results and Dominion voting machines, resulting in the company taking legal action.

"For Dominion - whose business is producing and providing voting systems for elections - there are no accusations that could do more to damage Dominion's business or to impugn Dominion's integrity, ethics, honesty, and financial integrity", the lawsuit says.

Court documents on Monday showed the company is accusing him of defamation, in what it called his "big lie" campaign about widespread fraud in the presidential election.

The lawsuit seeks more than $1.3 billion in damages for the voting machine company, a target for conservatives who made up wild claims about the company, blaming it for Trump's loss and alleging without evidence that its systems were easily manipulated.

Mr Giuliani said in a statement that Dominion's lawsuit was meant to intimidate others from exercising their free speech rights. "Not only have these lies damaged the good name of Dominion Voting, they have also undermined trust in American democratic institutions, drowning out the remarkable work of election officials and workers who ensured a transparent and secure election", he said.

Giuliani and Powell persisted in making false statements even after they received retraction demands from Dominion's lawyers, according to the complaints.

In its suit the company says, "Dominion was not founded in Venezuela to fix elections for Hugo Chávez".

The company also sent a similar letter to Trump.
