Former White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders will run to become governor of Arkansas.
She released her White House memoir "Speaking for Myself: Faith, Freedom, and the Fight of Our Lives Inside the Trump White House" this past September, calling out the relentless liberal activist media for its breathless attempts to discredit and defame Trump administration and its staffers.
Huckabee Sanders' high-profile gig as former President Donald Trump's spokeswoman earned her a long list of critics, but also Trump's support - an important advantage in a staunchly Republican state. Not only is Sanders well-liked by the President - unlike many in Trump's orbit, she left the White House on good terms and in the President's good graces - but the primary experience she is expected to tout on the campaign trail is her work with Trump. She will challenge Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin (R) and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge (R), both of whom have already said they will run. The three are running to succeed current Governor Asa Hutchinson, a Republican who is unable to run next year due to term limits.
No Democrats have announced a bid to run for the seat.
"She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job", Trump tweeted when Sanders was leaving the White House.

Trump easily sailed past Hillary Clinton in Arkansas in 2016, winning the state 60.57 percent to 33.65 percent, and surpassed President Joe Biden there last November by a similar margin, 62.40 percent to 34.78 percent.
During her time has press secretary, Sanders was a controversial figure, often sparring with reporters and at times criticized for spreading false information in defense of the president.
During her almost two-year tenure as Trump's chief spokeswoman, daily televised briefings led by the press secretary ended after Sanders repeatedly sparred with reporters who aggressively questioned her about administration policy and the investigation into possible coordination between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.
Trump's tumultuous exit from the presidency may do little damage to Sanders in Arkansas. Republican state Sen. Jim Hendren, who is also a nephew of Hutchinson's, is considering a run.
