Officials with the Yukon government have confirmed the identities of a couple from Vancouver who allegedly travelled to a remote community last week to receive doses of COVID-19 vaccine amid media reports that the former president of the Great Canadian Gaming Corp. was one of those charged with breaching the territory's Civil Emergency Measures Act.
They were discovered after asking to be taken to the airport straight after the vaccination last week in the small community of Beaver Creek, on the border with the USA state of Alaska. Authorities soon found that the pair were actually wealthy Vancouver residents who had chartered a private plane to the Alaska Highway outpost so that they could get shots meant to protect vulnerable Indigenous elders.

John Streicker, Yukon's Community Services Minister, said the couple lied to officials at the clinic where the vaccine was being administered, per the Yukon News. But they apparently didn't, and were each fined $575. "That's got to be jail time. The exhaustion. It's just mind-boggling".
He says they were charged for failure to self-isolate and failure to behave in a manner consistent with their declaration upon arrival.
After finding that the Bakers had already checked out of the Whitehorse hotel where they were supposed to be quarantined, officers headed to the city's airport, arriving not long after the couple's charter flight returned from Beaver Creek.
