Ontario schools: In-person learning resumes in 7 southern regions Monday

In all, over 100,000 students will return to class in this part of the province.

Only schools within 7 southern Ontario public health units are allowed to go back today, including Kingston and Peterborough.

The province is implementing more safety measures in areas where schools are reopening, including requiring students in grades 1 through 3 to wear masks indoors and when physical distancing isn't possible outside as well.

"The best kind of learning is in-person, face-to-face, with the support of education workers and teachers", says Harvey Bischof.

Bischof adds the province has rejected medical advice when it comes to smaller class sizes and better ventilation in schools.

While it's been more than a month since students in southern Ontario have been in the classroom, classes resumed in the northern part of the province on January 11.

On Jan. 12, the Ford government announced that elementary and secondary students in Windsor-Essex, Peel, Toronto, York Region, and Hamilton would continue to learn remotely while it continues to closely monitor public health trends in those regions.
