Devenu pour certains un symbole de la liberté d'expression en Espagne, le rappeur Pablo Hasél, condamné à la prison pour des tweets attaquant la monarchie et les forces de l'ordre, a été incarcéré mardi.

Des manifestants affrontent la police sur l'une des places principales de Madrid.

Pablo Hasél - de son vrai nom Pablo Rivadulla Duró - avait jusqu'à vendredi soir pour se rendre volontairement en prison et commencer à y purger la peine de neuf mois qui lui avait été infligée par la justice espagnole. "Mort à l'Etat fasciste!", a-t-il encore clamé en regardant les caméras au moment d'entrer dans un véhicule des "Mossos d'Esquadra".

La tension ne retombe pas en Catalogne après l'arrestation de Pablo Hasél mardi.

"Plusieurs organisations ont tenu des sit-in et des manifestations en faveur du rappeur et plus de 200 personnalités du monde de la culture et de l'art ont signé une pétition de soutien en sa faveur, accusant l'Espagne de " répression " et de " violation de la liberté d'opinion et d'expression et de restrictions aux libertés ". Les signataires y affirmaient notamment que la condamnation de Pablo Hasél constituait une "épée de Damoclès" au-dessus de tous les artistes et accusaient l'Espagne d'agir comme "la Turquie ou le Maroc". La porte-parole de l'exécutif, María Jesús Montero, a reconnu la semaine dernière "un manque de proportionnalité" dans la peine infligée au rappeur.

Le cas du rappeur a provoqué une polémique qui a conduit le gouvernement du socialiste Pedro Sánchez à promettre une réforme afin que les " excès verbaux " ne relèvent plus du droit pénal et ne puissent plus donner lieu à des peines de prison. Une affaire qui relance le débat sur la liberté d'expression dans le pays.

Ces incidents ont aussi mis en évidence les tensions croissantes entre les deux partis de la coalition au pouvoir: les socialistes du premier ministre Pedro Sánchez et le parti de gauche radicale Podemos. "Tous ceux qui se considèrent progressistes et se vantent de la 'pleine normalité démocratique' (de l'Espagne), devraient avoir honte. Il n'y a pas de progrès si nous ne voulons pas reconnaître les manques démocratiques actuels", a twitté Podemos.
