  • Manchin Opposes Neera Tanden Nomination For OMB Director

Joe Manchin (WV) put the first Biden administration cabinet nominee in real political peril on Friday, announcing that he would not vote to confirm Neera Tanden as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said he is opposing President Biden's nominee to run the Office of Management and Budget, Neera Tanden.

Manchin's announcement means that unless a Republican senator comes forward to support Tanden's nomination, it's unlikely that she will be confirmed for the job.

"I believe her overtly partisan statements will have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next director of the Office of Management and Budget", he said.

The move could sink her nomination unless Biden can find a Republican to support Tanden, who Manchin faulted for overly partisan statements.

The Senate Budget Committee is set to vote on Tanden's nomination next week in advance of a full floor vote. Sen.

Even so, Sanders is expected to vote to confirm Tanden.

Manchin cited Tanden's "public statements and tweets" in his statement.

Stunning though, several of the offending tweeters are now doubling down, blaming green energy for the current calamity. A Republican source told Fox News that the allegations Cruz was traveling to the Mexican city are true.

But the Democratic wins in two Georgia Senate runoffs a month later kept the prospect of her confirmation alive as long as all 50 Democrats voted in favor of her nomination.

Tanden apologized for her Twitter past during a hearing before lawmakers, saying she regretted her language, as reported by Politico. As soon as then-President-elect Biden announced her as his pick to led the powerful but wonky agency, Republicans signaled their intent to line up against her confirmation.

During her nomination hearing before the Senate Budget Committee, Tanden was chastised by Chairman Bernie Sanders for her past tweets and she pledged to refrain from making personal attacks such as those she had directed at Sanders in the past.
