A California school board is under fire after members made a series of comments mocking parents who are pressing for in-person classes, with one member claiming such parents just "want their babysitters back" and another suggesting parents want their kids out of the house so they can smoke weed.
The Oakley Union Elementary School District announced the resignation of the board members on Friday, two days after the public meeting, a portion of which was recorded and shared on YouTube.
"Are we alone", trustee Kim Beede asked before launching into a tirade: "B--, if you're going to call me out, I'm going to f-- you up". The rant comes at the 5:30-minute mark.
Trustees were awaiting the start of the meeting when they began discussing parents' letters and social media posts about reopening schools.
Masadas also says of the school board's critics that "it's easy to hide behind their screens" and "when you're face-to-face with people, it's a whole different ballgame".
Parents have created a petition at change.org that calls for the board members to resign immediately.
Faulconer held an in-person press conference in-front of Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco yesterday to advocate for the immediate reopening of California's schools. A school official told Politico the district is considering an April return date.
Will went on to say, "And we're not going back to school because we can't we're going back to school because no one really wants to make the effort because we've seen it elsewhere".

The district's superintendent, Greg Hetrick, announced the resignation in a letter Friday and said that Contra Costa County education board members will replace them in an interim capacity, the Mercury News reported.
'The comments made were not in alignment with our Vision and are definitely not what any of us stand for as leaders.
"Sorry, that's just me", Beede added.
"I tendered my resignation because I don't want to be a part of something that would negatively impact my community", she continued. The elementary school district is now only allowing distanced learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Last night at the Oakley Union Elementary School District Regular Board Meeting there were unfortunate and truly inappropriate comments made that were heard by many.
"This was a hard decision, but we hear the community's concerns, and we believe yielding to your request that we step down will allow the district to move forward", they said. "The students, staff and families deserve the very best, there is much work that needs to be done to reopen our schools safely and I will be praying that we as a community can move past this incident together and that our children always remain in focus". I am responsible and accountable and I am truly sorry for what took place.
'A recall would cost the district money that should be going to the kids.
"I only wish for our local public school to be run by better people", the person wrote. I pledge to work collaboratively with stakeholders and community members to begin doing the important work that is needed to rebuild community trust in our district'.
