Zamfara police said they had begun search-and-rescue operations with the army to find the "bandits" who took the 317 girls from the Government Girls Science Secondary School in the town of Jangebe.
He said the abductors invaded the town and took away the students at about 2:00 am local time (0100 GMT) on Friday, reports Xinhua.
Abubakar Dauran, Zamfara state commissioner of security and home affairs, who confirmed the information to reporters in the state capital of Gusau, said the gunmen abducted the female students of the Government Girls' Secondary School (GGSS) at Jangebe town in the Talata Mafara local government area of the state.
The recent abductions are symptomatic of a generalized fragmentation of the country, as ethnic groups demand not only greater autonomy, but also the definitive renunciation of a nation in which they have lost all trust and sense of belonging.
"These attack. puts (the children) at risk of never returning to school, as they or their parents think it's too unsafe".
"When you have these mass abductions now and you see victims are released relatively quickly, unlike Chibok, the one thing that has changed is money", Effiong said.
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent an open letter to the UN Security Council and its members urging them to "urgently hold a special session on Nigeria and to visit the country to press the authorities to end continuing abductions of students and the increasing level of insecurity across the country".
