An ambulance carrying the Duke was seen leaving King Edward VII hospital in London on Monday morning (local time).

Doctors treating Prince Philip, 99, will also undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition, the palace said.

The palace's latest statement read: "The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention for an infection".

In Tuesday's last update (23), the Palace said, "He is comfortable and responds to treatment, but should not leave the hospital for several days".

The duke, who is three months away from his 100th birthday, was initially admitted almost two weeks ago for a few days as a precautionary measure after feeling unwell.

Philip turns 100 on June 10 and his already lengthy stay in hospital has raised concerns because of his age, even though he was said to have been comfortable and responding to treatment.

Prince Philip is now experiencing double pain nearly two weeks after being confined in a hospital.

St. Bartholomew's specializes in cardiac care, according to the hospital's website, which bills it as "Europe's largest specialised cardiovascular service".

He confirmed: "The other day when Prince Philip went into hospital, his royal page who was with him for many years died on the day the Duke went in".

"The Duke's admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness's Doctor, after feeling unwell".

Prince Charles last week visited his father in the hospital where, according to British tabloids, they discussed future of the British royal family.

Six days ago, in an interview with Sky News, the Earl of Wessex said his father was "a lot better".

"So we keep our fingers crossed".

The Queen and Prince Philip both received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in January 2021. I think that gets to all of us, and then you can only watch the clock so many times and the walls are only so interesting.

Meanwhile, the 94-year-old Queen has remained at her Windsor Castle home to the west of London, where the couple have been staying during the coronavirus lockdown, and last week continued to carry out her official duties, albeit by video.
