  • Linda Reynolds Australian minister 'regrets' slur on alleged rape victim

Morrison confirmed that was indeed that case and that the "lying cow" comment was in regard to Reynolds being frustrated that Higgins was speaking publicly that she felt unsupported by her former employer.

The Prime Minister told parliament it was unacceptable he had not been informed immediately.

Australia's attorney general Christian Porter is accused of raping a 16-year-old fellow student in 1988, an allegation he denies.

Former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, who was allegedly raped by a colleague inside Parliament House, has hit back at the comments made by her former boss, Defense Minister Linda Reynolds, in which she called the alleged rape survivor "a lying cow".

She's now on leave and will return to her duties when her leave is finished.

As a result, she missed a sold-out speech at the National Press Club that Defence Industry representatives had flown to Canberra to attend, forcing the caterers to flog hundreds of takeaway lobsters at the bargain price of $10 a plate.

Ms Higgins' accusation that she was raped by one of Ms Reynolds' ex-advisers has rocked the government.

After lawyers fired off a letter threatening to sue Senator Reynolds, she issued a fresh statement apologising for the remarks.

Senator Reynolds faces criticism over her handling of Ms Higgins' rape allegation as well as her failure to inform Scott Morrison of the incident for almost two years.

"I appreciate that it has been a stressful time but that sort of behaviour and language is never excusable".

In a statement on Friday, Senator Reynolds said she meant to issue an apology to Ms Higgins and expressed remorse for the comments.

Il compte sur les médecins retraités qui se sont portés volontaires pour occuper des créneaux sur des plages horaires vacantes. Deux millions et demi de personnes supplémentaires vont pouvoir être éligibles à la vaccination contre la Covid-19.

Mr Morrison stressed she had never questioned her account of the alleged rape.

"I did however comment on news reports regarding surrounding circumstances that I felt had been misrepresented".

He said Ms Reynolds had made the comments "in her private office in a stressful week".

Porter was forced to come forward after senior lawmakers received a dossier setting out the claims of the alleged victim, who died last June without making a formal complaint to police.

Lawyers for Ms Higgins reportedly demanded Senator Reynolds apologise after it was reported that the minister called her a "lying cow" on the same day allegations Ms Higgins was raped in Parliament House emerged.

He clarified that the Defence Minister was not saying the alleged rape was a lie, but that Ms Higgins didn't receive support from the government after her alleged ordeal.

"She deeply regrets it". They weren't made in a public place and nor were they intended for that.

"We at all times followed the advice of ministerial and parliamentary services and the Department of Finance, as was appropriate", Senator Reynolds said to parliament last month. The woman took her own life previous year.

An investigation into who knew what and when in the Prime Minister's office and other ministerial offices is continuing.

Mr Morrison conceded the remarks were not "acceptable" but stood by his embattled minister.
