Alberta mayor urges better communication about COVID variant outbreak at business

Hinshaw on Saturday said there had been a "significant" Brazilian variant outbreak, but gave no further details until Monday.

She says there has also been an outbreak of five cases - one linked to the Brazilian variant - at a separate Calgary zone workplace.

The first outbreak "appears linked to a large employer with multiple sites across Western Canada", Hinshaw said in a lengthy post on Twitter.

She says the spread has been confined to three work sites in the central and north zones in which employees travelled between locations.

"It's natural to be frustrated and to be sick and exhausted of this pandemic", Hinshaw said.

Five cases are now linked to that outbreak, including one confirmed case of the P.1 variant.

St. Albert added another nine COVID-19 cases overnight while six more people recovered, bringing the total active cases in the city to 113. The positivity rate was 9.9 per cent.

The province has 10,809 active cases of COVID-19.

Beginning Tuesday at 8 A.M., additional Albertans will be eligible to book a COVID-19 immunization as part of phase 2B through AHS online & Health Link 8-1-1.

She thanked the public for their patience.
