As for the gunshot wound to Brown's head, the report said the shot was from intermediate range, caused skull fractures and never exited his head.

"At that time, he was hit in the back of the head", and the vehicle crashed into a tree "as he was leaving the site trying to evade being shot", Kendall said.

42-year-old Andrew Brown Jr. was fatally shot by Pasquotank County sheriff's deputies while they were attempting to serve a warrant at Brown's home on Wednesday, April 21, while Brown was sitting in the driver's seat of his auto in his driveway.

In a press conference Tuesday, lawyers for Brown's family said he was shot four times in the arm before officers fired the fatal shot. That fatal shot entered his skull near the base of his neck and lodged in his brain. "Agents will work closely with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice to determine whether federal laws were violated".

There were signs of lingering tension on a hot, sunny Tuesday afternoon in Elizabeth City, where about 20 demonstrators blocked off an intersection near the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office, forcing motorists to take a detour.

Brown's relatives said they want to see the entire footage from the shooting - and numerous political leaders and media outlets are calling for the video recordings to be released publicly.

One driver, a middle-aged white man, was seen with a gun on the dashboard of his pickup truck after approaching protesters and complaining about the blockage, according to Reosha Christian, 35, a city resident taking part in the demonstration. "It was 20 seconds and we lost count of how many shots".

In a press conference Monday conducted shortly after family members and lawyers reviewed body camera footage of the shooting, attorneys referred to Brown's death as an "execution".

Elizabeth City officials on Tuesday amended their emergency declaration to include a curfew from 8 p.m.to 6 a.m.

This information came from an independent autopsy that they had done. North Carolina law requires that step as agencies generally do not have the authority to make such recordings public.

Cox did not respond to a request for comment.

Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten II has said his office is asking a court to approve the video's release.

Co-counsel Wayne Kendall said the first four gunshots that struck Brown, all in his right arm, were fired through his front windshield, prompting him to throw the vehicle into reverse, turn the auto around and "spin off across a vacant lot". A family lawyer said on Monday there were seven to eight officers at the scene.

Brown's son, Khalil Ferebee, said "Yesterday I said he was executed, that was correct".

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not released a report of its autopsy on Brown's body.
