  • Arlene Foster has faced mounting criticism over her handling of the Northern Ireland Protocol

"The Democratic Unionist Party conducts its business in accordance with its constitution and rules".

"So we'll just deal with it and move on because I've bigger things to do, including getting us through this Covid pandemic, including listening to the concerns of working-class communities".

Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader and First Minister of Northern Ireland Arlene Foster has dismissed claims that her leadership of the party is under threat after reports of internal unrest over Foster's handling of the Brexit process.

It follows calls from within her party for a leadership contest.

The paper also referred to internal discontent at Mrs Foster's handling of the Brexit process.

In addition, a letter has been sent from DUP councillors to the party chairman, Lord Morrow, stating they were "severely worried" about the state of the party and country and calling for Mrs Foster and deputy leader Nigel Dodds to resign.

Former Boris Johnson aide Dominic Cummings denies leaking text messages
The prime minister had not interfered in a government leak inquiry, his office said on Friday. The Labour Party called for a full investigation into the matter.

She said that "these stories come up from time to time" and she meant to "deal with it and move on".

'I haven't received any letters from constituency associations so I'm not going to get into a running commentary on these issues, they come up from time to time. "The Northern Ireland Protocol for instance, Arlene is not to blame for that and removing her doesn't change the fundamentals of that". I think it's important to note that there is a big job to do.

Mrs Foster has led the DUP since December 2015, taking over from Peter Robinson.

The amendment, which was defeated by 59 votes to 28, was criticised by political rivals for attempting to remove the line from the original motion saying it was wrong to view the LGBTQ community as requiring a "fix or cure".

Mrs Foster's decision to abstain in a vote on gay conversion therapy last week appears to have further agitated sections of the party's grassroots.
