In January 2020, 37 people were injured at an elementary school in Cangwu county in southern China by a knife-wielding security guard, while back in 2018, a woman brandishing a kitchen knife injured 14 children at a kindergarten in Chongqing.

Two of the wounded are in a serious condition after the mass stabbing in Beiliu City, in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Police have apprehended the suspect and the incident is under investigation, the Global Times said.

Videos posted to Chinese social media sites showed graphic footage of bloodied children crying, with some lying unresponsive on the floor of a covered playground.

Fire at Baghdad Covid hospital kills 82, leaves 110 wounded
But several families were still at the hospital hours after the fire had been extinguished, after failing to find them elsewhere. At the Vatican, Pope Francis, who concluded a historic trip to Iraq last month, remembered those who perished in the blaze.

Two of the injured children later died while another two are seriously injured and undergoing surgery.

Past years have seen numerous such attacks, usually perpetrated by people who were described as mentally or emotionally disturbed or who bore grudges against the owners of such facilities.

This is not the first knife attack targeting a kindergarten or elementary school in China of late.

Authorities didn't confirm a motive for the attack, but Hong Kong news outlets, including Oriental Daily and Apple Daily, reported that the suspect was going through a divorce and his wife worked at the school.
