  • Militia members intended to blow up bridge as part of kidnap plot against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Prosecutors

Adam Fox and Barry Croft, two of the anti-government extremists arrested in the plot, were charged along with another man with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and federal firearm violations as part of a scheme to detonate explosives at a bridge to prevent police from reaching Whitmer's home, reported the Washington Post.

Adam Fox, 40, Barry Croft, 45, and Daniel Joseph Harris, 23, were each indicted on one count of knowingly conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction against persons or property, according to the indictment filed in federal court in Grand Rapids.

Fox, Croft and Harris along with Brandon Caserta, Ty Garbin and Kaleb Franks were arrested and charged in October with conspiring to grab Whitmer, a Democrat, from her vacation home in Antrim County, a rural area in northern MI.

The trio allegedly meant to use the devices to blow up a bridge near the Democratic governor's northern MI home to hinder responding law enforcement officers.

Right-wing extremists accused of plotting the kidnapping and execution of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also tried to buy explosives to blow up a bridge near the Democrat's vacation home. Several weeks later, Fox and Harris allegedly made payments toward the explosives.

Supreme Court agrees to hear major Second Amendment case
The law allows concealed-carry licenses "when proper cause exists" while banning the open carry of firearms entirely. Second Amendment supporters have been trying for more than a decade to get the High Court to weigh in on this issue.

The superseding indictment also alleges that on September 13, 2020 in Lake County, Michigan, Croft and Harris knowingly possessed a destructive device that was not registered to them in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record as required by federal law. It said Harris also possessed an unregistered semiautomatic assault rifle.

Lawyers for the men were not immediately available for comment.

Fox, Croft and Harris were charged in December along with Brandon Caserta, Kaleb Franks and Ty Garbin by a grand jury of conspiring between June 6 and October 7 of a year ago to kidnap Whitmer, take her hostage and try her for treason over restrictions she put in place to stymie the coronavirus pandemic.

The new charges stem from the ongoing FBI investigation into the kidnapping plot, the Justice Department said in a statement.
