"This is good news for all of us".

U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he had not made a decision on whether the U.S. would support an Indian and South African initiative at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to waive Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) to facilitate the production of COVID-19 related vaccines and therapeutics around the world.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 166.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 9.9 per cent from last week (April 19 to April 25). "My hope is that knowing vaccines are safe and effective at any point in pregnancy will encourage those who are now pregnant to take the opportunity to get vaccinated".

"What we see is there is an increased rate of hospitalization and, in fact, (intensive care unit) admission in pregnant women compared to non-pregnant women of the same age group", she said in an interview.

Health Minister Adrian Dix says 42.53 percent of B.C.'s eligible population have been vaccinated.

The commission has examined what went wrong in the province's response to the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The province also reported that 21 more people died of the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 8,050.

"That leads us to think about the interval we have between dose 1 and dose 2", Henry said, adding that fewer than 92,000 people had received the required two doses.

It is the highest daily increase in deaths since February 16 and the second straight day with less than 3,000 new cases.

Bonnie Henry says scientific data shows that pregnant people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have commonly had more severe illness - similar to someone in their 50s.

"Today, we are reporting on three periods: from April 30 to May 1, we had 835 new cases; from May 1 to May 2, we had 671 new cases and in the last 24 hours, we had a further 668 new cases".

Henry said the despite the increasing numbers of people immunized and improving case numbers, there will be no large indoor or outdoor events this summer, winter or fall. There are 7,327 active cases of COVID-19 of which 474 are being treated in hospital including 176 in intensive care.
