  • AOC Marjorie Taylor Greene

After the exchange, Greene accused Ocasio-Cortez of cowardice.

Per the report, AOC mostly ignored Greene.

The Washington Post reports Greene, a Republican from Georgia, attempted to confront AOC, a Democrat from NY, outside the House chamber on Wednesday afternoon.

Greene seemed keen to get Ocasio-Cortez's attention, shouting "Hey Alexandria" twice when it was clear the NY congresswoman would not engage, then hurrying after her, The Post reported.

"You don't care about the American people", Greene yelled.

"And any US Member of Congress supporting terrorists Hamas should be expelled".

Greene, age 46, also reportedly shouted that Ocasio-Cortez was failing to defend her "radical socialist" beliefs by declining to publicly debate the freshman from Georgia.

The controversial Greene has been needling Ocasio-Cortez since arriving in Washington, but Ocasio-Cortez has refused to engage with her.

Greene has repeatedly claimed Ocasio-Cortez is too "chicken" to debate her on the Green New Deal.

Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive with similar star power, has become a favorite target.

Greene did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment or clarification on what she had meant by "terrorists" in Wednesday's debacle. She also disparaged her colleague in a series of tweets on Thursday, including one post labeling Ocasio-Cortez "a hate-America terrorist sympathizer".

The Squad is a nickname Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of MA and Rashida Tlaib of MI gave themselves after bonding at their freshman orientation in 2018.

The episode erupted on Wednesday afternoon after Ocasio-Cortez had criticized the Biden administration's stance on Israel.

A spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez told Insider in a statement that Greene had been "screaming".

"It got so uncomfortable for AOC that she asked the "leadership and the Sergeant at Arms" to take real steps to make Congress a safe, civil place for all Members and staff - especially as many offices are discussing reopening".

That member who moved offices is Missouri's Cori Bush, who said earlier this year that a maskless Greene stopped her in a hallway and "berated" her.
