  • Stay at home order extended to June 2nd

The province's top doctor has said he would like to see "well below" 1,000 daily cases before Ontario lifts the stay-at-home order.

The City also said some outdoor recreation amenities including public trails and parks remain open for safe enjoyment and exercise, but are restricted to members of the same household only.

"I understand people are really exhausted, they're frustrated, but we need to sort of hunker down for this last two weeks so that we can actually open things up like golf courses and soccer pitches and so on in June, July and August and have some what of a normal summer. We'll hunker down, keep wearing our masks so that we can open up some of these outdoor facilities for sports enthusiasts and we can get kids back for at least 30 days in June to their classroom", said Watson.

"We do need to see more empowerment and capacity amongst family doctors to help their patients get vaccinated and to be able to administer in office when feasible", Dr. Samantha Hill said.

"I do think these things are possible". The rollout will be informed by the work of the Children's COVID-19 Vaccine Table and will provide access through multiple channels to support vaccinating this group, including mass vaccination clinics, community or school pop-ups, and pharmacies. "We do not want a fourth wave at all".

Meanwhile, Ontario passed another grim pandemic milestone on Thursday when the number of laboratory-confirmed cases of people with COVID-19 passed the 500,000 mark.

The province, however, briefly loosened restrictions despite the warning before a surge of infections forced it to impose another lockdown. "This brutal third wave is fuelled nearly entirely by variants that pass too easily through our borders".

Trudeau said Thursday he was "frustrated" and "disappointed" with the Ontario premier. The province opened eligibility to the age cohort through its vaccine booking portal.

He also said that elementary and secondary students will remain learning online at home for the time being. "It's just unfortunate that Doug Ford continues to play politics".

Ford has been more vocal recently in his criticism of the federal government's handling of the pandemic, calling for tighter border control to prevent cases of the COVID-19 variants from entering the province.

Ontario declared a state of emergency and invoked the stay-at-home order in early April amid skyrocketing cases. Restaurants and gyms are closed for in-person service.

"While we are seeing positive trends as a result of the public health measures put in place, we can not afford to let up yet", said Premier Ford.

Ontarians aged 40 and older can book COVID-19 vaccine appointments across the province today.

"We need to enjoy the attractive sun we have coming up this week and we also need to choose the activities that allow us to keep distance from others".

There are now 1,582 people hospitalized in the province with 777 in intensive care units.

Ontario is reporting 2,362 new COVID-19 cases and 26 additional deaths on Friday.
