Indian Ambassador to the United States, TS Sandhu on Thursday (June 3, 2021) revealed that India will be a major part of US President Joe Biden's Global Allocation Plan of sending over 25 million COVID-19 vaccines to neighbours and partner countries.

On Thursday, the White House said 19 million doses out of the 25 million of the first tranche will be sent to the COVAX facility while the remaining seven million will be allocated to the following countries: Philippines, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan and the Pacific Islands.

Another 60 million doses of AstraZeneca Plc's vaccine remains on US shelves, despite Biden's repeated promises to export them.

He said the first tranche is coming from the federal supply of doses and will be comprised of a combination of the three vaccines with current U.S. emergency use authorization: Johnson and Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer/BioNTech. "The president has committed that the USA will be an arsenal for vaccines". Another 60 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca will be donated once a quality review check is completed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Biden said this first batch is expected to address Covid-19 surges, high burdens of infections and the needs of the countries most vulnerable to the infection.

The United States will share vaccines in service of ending the pandemic globally.

The White House will base donation decisions on "factors included achieving global coverage, responding to crises ... and helping as many countries as possible", Sullivan said, adding the United States intends to prioritize its neighbors, including Canada, Mexico and countries in Central and South America.

The 25 million doses will comprise three vaccines approved by US regulators - one developed by USA pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. and its German partner BioNTech SE, another by US company Moderna Inc. and a third by Johnson & Johnson, according to a White House official. Just like in the United States, we will move as expeditiously as possible, while abiding by USA and host country regulatory and legal requirements, to facilitate the safe and secure transport of vaccines across worldwide borders. The US will have a surplus of almost 300M vaccines by July and President Biden should act swiftly to send those doses to countries in dire need such as India, said Neil Makhija, executive director at IMPACT.

The growing USA stockpile of COVID-19 vaccines is seen by many overseas and at home not only as a testament to America's achievement but also its global privilege.

"After making a 2,000-mile journey to California, these 1 million doses are being loaded into a plane that will take off to the Republic of Korea this evening, carrying hope and bringing life-saving protection to the 1 million South Koreans who have already signed up to get a shot", he said in a telephonic press briefing.

The country will share 75% of these vaccines through Covax. That shot has not been authorized for US use and is still under review by the Food and Drug Administration.

Harris had herself called Modi and informed him about the vaccines, reported the Hindustan Times. He stated "I expressed to her our appreciation in the name of the people of Mexico", in his Tweet.

As part of its purchase agreements with the pharmaceutical companies, the federal government controlled the distribution of the vaccines. "In the days to come, as we draw on the experience of distributing the vaccine doses announced today, we will have more details to provide about how future doses will be shared".
