  • Suspects arrested in freeway killing of 6-year-old Orange County boy

He died at the hospital.

Eriz Marcus Anthony, 24, and Lee Wynne, 23, are expected to be charged with the murder of the boy, who was sitting in the back seat of his mother's vehicle when he was fatally struck on May 21 at around 8 a.m., the California High Patrol (CHP) said.

"While these arrests will not ease the pain of a mother's loss, my hope is for the Leos family to have some peace of mind and to rest assured the CHP will work with the Orange County District Attorney to bring justice for Aiden", CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray said in the release. Both were being held on $1 million bail and are scheduled to make their first appearance in court on Tuesday, according to Orange County jail records.

It was unclear where Anthony and Wynne were being held, and whether they had attorneys who could speak on their behalf.

CNN has not yet determined if they have legal representation.

Trump DoJ Secretly Obtained NYT Reporters' Records
Psaki on Thursday said Trump administration officials had "abused their power" and that Biden was looking to turn the page. Trump's DOJ secretly obtained the phone records of four NYT journalists, the The Times reported.

"There was road rage on the freeway and someone pulled out a gun and shot my little brother in the stomach", she told reporters. "He said, 'Mommy my tummy hurts, ' so she went and she picked him up and he was bleeding on her". The CHP said it expects murder charges to be filed against them.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect or suspects has soared past $450,000.

Officials have not said if anyone will receive the reward money following the arrests.

The arrests follow a lengthy manhunt conducted by investigators from the Santa Ana Area CHP and the CHP's Border Division Investigative Services Unit.

"The Department has been in regular contact with the victim's family and I assure you they, like us, are committed to seeing justice served", he added.

"Every time I pass the freeway, I want to cry", Jessie Palomo told the affiliate. "This is now a place that everyone knows about, sadly, in a sad, tragic way".

The arrests came a day after the memorial service for Leos, who was remembered as a child with a vocabulary beyond his years who exuded warmth and tenderness. He said she told them that when she tried to switch lanes to exit, a vehicle with a man and woman inside cut her off and she gestured to them and proceeded into the exit lane, which is when the bullet entered the left side of trunk and struck her son.
