While he pleaded guilty to the charges of kidnap and rape, the third charge, murder, was not put to him, according to the clerk.

Couzens pleaded guilty to kidnapping Everard "unlawfully and by force or fraud" on 3 March.

However the court heard that Couzens accepts responsibility for her death.

Couzens, who appeared via videolink from Belmarsh prison, has not entered a plea to murder and is being medically assessed.

Wayne Couzens, 48, a London officer, also accepted responsibility for killing Everard but did not enter a plea while medical reports were being prepared, the BBC said.

A serving police officer has admitted kidnapping and raping Sarah Everard - the marketing executive who went missing near Clapham Common.

Pc Wayne Couzens, of the London force, pleaded guilty to the kidnap and rape of Ms Everard at the Old Bailey this morning (Tuesday). Four members of Miss Everard's family were in court to hear the pleas.

Throughout the 30-minuite hearing, Couzens sat with his head bowed with the sleeves of his top pulled down over his hands.
