Alberta's top doctor is slated to give an update on COVID-19 in the province Tuesday afternoon.

"Admissions to the two affected units are now on hold as are patient transfers to long-term care centres or other community-based lodging", said the public health agency in a statement. "It appears that all but one case are hospital-acquired, so cases were in hospital for other reasons before their infections".

Alberta has been seeing a steady decline in the numbers of new and active cases of COVID-19 cases.

There are 336 people in the hospital with 85 in ICU.

The Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Association sent the letter over concern about the pace of the reopening plan, given that the delta variant first identified in India is able to infect two-thirds of people who've only had a single dose.

To date, 3.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province accounting for 67 per cent of Albertans 12 years and older having received at least one dose while 15 per cent of the province are now fully immunized with two doses. She says it also indicates that the immunization rollout along with public health restrictions are working together in limiting the transmission of the virus.

In the meantime, Albertans can help by getting vaccinated and practicing health protocols.
