Ontario reports 411 new COVID-19 cases

Ontario's daily COVID-19 case count has dipped below the 500 mark for the second day in a row. With no new fatalities recorded Wednesday, the local death toll remains at 221.

The Ministry of Health has stated that of the 33 new deaths reported, 11 actually occurred in either April or May.

The province recorded 411 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest since September 25 when 409 cases were confirmed.

There have now been 12,383 cases of COVID-19 recorded in the London area during the 14-month pandemic.

Today's case count marks the lowest single-day total reported in the province since September 25.

There were 466 people in intensive care, including some patients transferred from Manitoba, and 314 were on ventilators. "Locally, there are 97 new cases in Toronto, 72 in Peel, 35 in Waterloo, 26 in York Region and 25 in Hamilton.", Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted Wednesday.

According to the province's epidemiology report, 902 of the B.1.1.7. variant were identified in lab-positive tests in the previous 24-hours.

There are now 3,180 cases with a variant of concern, largely the B.1.1.7 variant that originated in the United Kingdom.

The province also identified an additional 64 cases of the P.1. variant.

With 30,456 tests processed over the past 24 hours, the province is reporting an Ontario-wide positivity rate of two per cent, the lowest that number has been since February 25.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said Wednesday that almost 10.5 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province to date, with close to 180,000 doses administered on Tuesday alone.

Nearly 1.29 million Ontarians are considered fully vaccinated with two doses.
