Babis had initially told police that his wife had been murdered by burglars.

The husband of a 20-year-old young mother of British descent who was murdered in the Athens suburb of Glyka Nera on May 11 will be led before the prosecutor on Friday, after confessing to the crime.

This had many Greeks worrying for their own safety in their homes. The police know their job and they will catch the people who did this. "I hope what my family and the family of my wife has been through will not happen to anyone again".

Police said late evening Thursday that the man's confession came after an eight-hour testimony at Attica police headquarters in Athens (GADA). We told them where the money was and asked them to leave us alone.

Caroline Crouch threatened to leave her husband.

A police spokesman said he found Babis handcuffed to the floor near Caroline and had duct tape over his eyes and mouth.

They were even able to determine from an app that tracks user's steps that Anagnostopoulos was up and walking around during the time he stated he was tied down by the intruders.

"There are no words that can express my pain", she said.

The biometric watch that Crouch wore on her wrist, which recorded a pulse at a time when her husband's testimony should have shown that there was no sign of life for the 20-year-old.

In the minutes before she died, her heart rate suddenly began to elevated, attesting to the fear she felt in the final moments of her life.

Anagnostopoulos claimed that the group of robbers removed the memory card from the family's security camera shortly before they left the house after killing his wife.

Police also found that Anagnostopoulos had "suspicious" activity on his cellphone at the exact time of the murder-despite his claim he was tied up and immobile.

But in a sensational twist, the Hellenic Police said on Thursday that Anagnostopoulos had confessed to murdering his British wife while he was being questioned about inconsistencies in his story.

According to reports, Babis eventually broke down saying: "That night we had been arguing from early on".

He told Greek television: "I can not describe it".

"I lost my temper, I suffocated her with the pillow".

On May 16, a 30-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder while trying to travel to Bulgaria via Evros in northern Greece with a fake passport, local papers reported.

"But for me, her death is too raw for me to speak about her".

The brutality of the murder has shocked the Greek public and brought conversations regarding intimate partner violence and domestic violence to the forefront of public discourse.
