Three children were among a group of people shot at an outdoor birthday party for a one-year-old child in Toronto's Rexdale neighbourhood Saturday evening, police said.

"It was a birthday party, a children's birthday party", Skinner said.

Three children and a man were shot at a one-year-old's birthday party.

The three children who were shot were 11, 5 and 1 years old, and the injured adult was identified as a 23-year-old.

Police say they are looking for multiple suspects but have yet to release any descriptions, saying only they know the shooters arrived at the scene on foot and fled the area in a vehicle.

Earlier, paramedics said the individual children had life-threatening, serious and minor injuries, but it wasn't immediately clear which injuries were suffered by which child.

A police source speaking to CP24 Sunday said that a warrant has been obtained to search a residence on Tandridge Crescent.

In a statement released Sunday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the perpetrators of the shooting "must be found and brought to justice".

Both pleaded for anyone with information to contact police.

"My heart goes out to the victims and the families of the victims and to all the people that were involved, because this is a traumatizing experience for that neighbourhood, which is a wonderful neighbourhood full of wonderful people", Tory said during an interview with CP24 on Sunday morning.

Kirsty Duncan, the federal member of parliament representing the riding where the shooting took place, said she was "horrified" by the incident in her community.
